Compwood Machines Ltd. presents an advanced wood bending technology
- making compressed hardwood for easy bending. The technology combines
the obvious advantages of steambending with the economical aspects of the
lamination technique, however, with carefull consideration to quality and
design.
The patented process was developed in 1989 at the Danish Technological
Institute and involves heating and plastificationof air dried hardwood
cants followed by a longitudinally compression ina special horizontal hydraulic
press for folding of the cellwalls of the wood. This structural change
makes the following bending easy in either hot or cold condition. Furthermore,
the finished products or components may be bent in more than one plane
and in small radii of curve. In 1998, Compwood Machines Ltd. introduced
an industrial series of cost effective compression and bending machines.
From 1999, the new generation of flexible edge banding material of flexible
wood was introduced at Interzum, Ligna and Xylexpo 2000.
Typical applications: Furniture components, curved handrails, flexible
edgebanding material and edges for table tops, thick sliced veneer for
parquet flooring (as compwood can be sliced in 5-6 mm without back cracking
when dried).
